Last Friday, two people were killed when a small plane crashed in Montague County, northwest of Fort Worth. According to WFAA ABC News Channel Eight, the victims were 51-year-old Lawrence Liptack and his 10-year-old son Landon Liptack. For currently unknown reasons, the twin-engine Cessna went down on a private piece of property near the Bowie Municipal Airport. The plane apparently landed on its belly, but scorched grass around the wreckage shows how large the fire was.
Father and Son Killed in Small Plane Crash
Neighbors reportedly didn’t hear any the crash happen, and were only alerted to the scene when emergency service vehicles were dispatched. Very little information has been released about this crash which took the lives of a father and son from Manvel, near Houston.
Investigators and officials with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) were on scene over the weekend trying to determine the cause of the crash. Recent reports indicate that investigators still don’t know if the plane was landing or taking off at the time of the crash, although there is some suspicion that the plane was approaching the airport.
Small Plane Crashes in North Texas
Sadly, this hasn’t been the first small aircraft crash in North Texas this summer. In July, we reported on a fatal plane crash that took the life of a 71-year-old pilot. Prior to that crash, there were two other small plane wrecks that happened in Wichita Falls. Thankfully, the pilots and passengers from those two crashes did survive, although there’s no word on the extent of their injuries.
Very little information has been released about how these investigations have been going. The FAA takes small aircraft crashes very seriously, even if the pilot and passengers are able to walk away from the scene. Determining the causes of these plane crashes is likely a top priority, in efforts to prevent potentially similar wrecks.
Aviation Accidents
Determining the cause of the crash is the most important step in any aviation accident investigation. If you have been injured or you have lost a loved one in a plane crash, you need to speak with skilled personal injury attorney with knowledge and experience in the aviation industry. It’s important to have a lawyer who can stay on top of federal investigative developments. The team at the Altman Legal Group sends their deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Lawrence and Landon Liptack.
