Very few details have been released about a deadly crash near Chickasha, Oklahoma. The crash happened just around 3:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon. A Semi truck and a car collided on the HE Bailey Turnpike. The crash was just east of the Chickasha airport. At least one person was killed, and the crash started a large grass fire. First responders were on the scene swiftly to fight the blaze. The victim’s identity hasn’t been released. There hasn’t been any word on the potential cause of the crash either. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol didn’t have all of the lanes opened again until about 7:30 p.m.
Questions remain unanswered about how this fiery crash could have occurred. Was distracted driving a factor? Could there have been a mechanical problem with either vehicle? Was the other driver injured? Were there any passengers involved? The Oklahoma Highway Patrol didn’t mention when they would have answers for the public. It would be difficult for ordinary citizens to find out what happened from law enforcement agencies, but a skilled attorney could stay on top of official investigations.
We recently reported on another fatal crash involving a semi truck. The crash occurred in Henrietta and involved an elderly driver. Crashes involving tractor trailers are often incredibly devastating and sometimes fatal for other drivers. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2003 Analysis of Fatal Large Truck Crashes reports that 2,930 large trucks were involved in fatal crashes in 2000. Additionally, 101,000 large trucks were involved in injury crashes. Large trucks are defined as vehicles with a weight greater than 10,000 pounds. They also report that since the late 1970’s, about 12 to 13 percent of all traffic fatalities involve large trucks.
