New Information on Fatal Wichita Falls Crash

New information has surfaced about a fatal crash that happened in February. The head-on collision occurred on Kell East, after 9:00 p.m. Robert Eugene Kelley, 56 years old, of Waurika, was driving an Isuzu Rodeo the wrong way down the eastbound lanes of Kell Freeway. His vehicle struck a Honda Civic head-on. The driver of the Honda was Catherine Davis, 40 years old, of Wichita Falls. Tragically, both drivers were pronounced dead on the scene. In addition, a 12-year-old-girl was critically injured in the crash. She was a passenger in the Honda Civic. She was taken to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth. No details have been released on her current condition.

The Times Record News has just reported on the toxicology reports of both drivers. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office found Kelley’s blood alcohol content to be .294 percent. Drugs or alcohol are often involved in wrong way crashes that occur at night. A toxicology report also showed that the female driver had three prescription drugs and marijuana in her system. There is no word yet on whether the prescription drugs were legally prescribed. Law enforcement officials are likely still investigating all possible circumstances that lead to this tragic wreck. The Times Record News also reported that marijuana was found on the woman’s body.

This new information may leave many wondering if this terrible crash could have been prevented. The Wichita Falls Police Department has been stepping up efforts to keep roadways safe. In addition to law enforcement, Wichita Falls citizens are also calling for harsher penalties for drunk drivers. The billboards that display the up-to-date number of Texas roadway fatalities serve as a constant safety reminder to drivers in North Texas. Sadly, these measures may not be enough to keep roadways completely safe.

A crash involving a drunk driver can quickly become complicated. There may be various investigative agencies involved. Victims need to focus on recovering from their injuries.
