Oklahoma Tornado Update: Death Toll at 24

The tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma has been described as one of the most destructive storms in history. On Monday night, officials feared the worst and thought that as many as 100 lives could have been lost. The New York Times has reported the latest death toll at 24. Most tragically, nine of those lives lost were children. Thankfully, many people who were thought to have been killed in the devastating storm were rescued from the rubble. More than 200 people have suffered from injuries and at least 70 of those have been children. Officials estimate that as many as 13,000 homes were damaged or destroyed. The 1.3-mile-wide tornado roared through Moore leaving nothing but destruction and devastation in its path. Wind speeds were as high as 210 miles per hour.

The next few weeks are likely going to be difficult for families as they begin to rebuild their homes and repair the physical and emotional damage left behind by the storm. They are likely going to be submitting insurance claims with their insurance companies as a result of the storm. People across Oklahoma and northern Texas sustained hail damage to their cars and roofs too. If you’re having trouble dealing with your insurance company, contact the Altman Legal Group for a free consultation. We can review your case and determine if your insurance company is acting in bad faith.

If you’re insurance company isn’t offering a fair amount for your claim, you should contact us immediately. Our lawyers are experienced in handling claims against big insurance corporations. Your insurance company may offer you a settlement that is just too small, or they may not offer anything at all due to some kind of exclusion in the policy. They may try to deny your claim for a number of reasons that you may not understand. If your insurance company fails to respond to your claim by a specific deadline, you may be entitled to additional damages. It’s not uncommon for an insurance company to deny claims or push settlements out for a longer than necessary period of time. Sadly, policy holders are often at the mercy of their insurance companies. Families may be unable to move on and rebuild without the settlements that they are rightly entitled to.

The team at the Altman Legal Group sends their deepest heartfelt condolences to those who have lost loved ones and children due to this terrible storm. We also wish speedy and full recoveries to everybody who has been injured. Our hearts go out to all the families who will now begin the process of rebuilding.
