Semi Truck Crash in Dallas

On Monday afternoon, a semi truck crashed on Interstate 45 in Dallas. According to KFDX News Channel Three, the one-vehicle wreck happened in the northbound lanes of I-45 over a bridge, near Simpson Stuart Road. The truck driver apparently lost control of the large big rig, and the cab portion of the truck slid over the edge of the bridge. The trailer remained overturned in the roadway until Tuesday, as the front portion of the truck dangled above the ground.

Truck Driver Escapes Cab Dangling Off Bridge

Thankfully, the truck driver was able to escape from the cab by jumping into a creek below the bridge. He then climbed back up the median and called emergency services. Lieutenant Matthew Edwards, of the Dallas Police Department, said the driver was lucky to escape with his life. Although few details were released about the crash, and the cause is likely still under investigation, the bridge was reportedly covered with ice at the time of the crash. Luckily, no other vehicles were involved, and the truck driver was able to escape safely.

Crashes Involving Semi Trucks in Texoma

Wrecks involving semi trucks and smaller passenger occupant vehicles can be devastating and deadly for victims. Tractor-trailers are so much larger and heavier than smaller cars and light trucks. Commercial truck drivers and trucking companies have additional rules and regulations to follow in order to keep the roads safe for all users. If truck drivers or commercial trucking companies are found to have violated regulations that resulted in an injury-causing or fatal crash, they need to be held accountable.

After a Tractor Trailer Accident

In 2012, 3,921 people were killed and 104,000 people were injured in crashes involving large trucks. Semi truck accidents can leave victims in the hospital, or worse. If you’ve been injured in a tractor trailer accident, you need to have an experienced truck accident lawyer on your side as soon as possible. Cases involving commercial trucks are much more complicated than cases involving only traditional passenger occupant vehicles. There are additional rules and federal regulations involved and more in depth investigative efforts may be necessary to determine the cause of the crash.

Deadly Big Rig Crash in Oklahoma

On Sunday, there was a deadly semi truck crash in Cimarron County, Oklahoma. According to KSWO ABC News Channel Seven, the collision took the life of an Elgin woman. At about 12:40 p.m., 46-year-old Lana P. Carlton was headed south on Highway 287, when a semi truck driver crossed the centerline and struck her car.

Elgin Woman Killed in Semi Truck Crash

The truck driver was reportedly reaching for a bottle of water when the big rig crossed into the oncoming lane. Carlton was pinned in her vehicle for about a half hour, before she was rushed to a Boise City hospital. Sadly, she died as a result of her injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time. The truck driver and his passenger did not report any injuries.

Crashes Involving Semi Trucks

Wrecks involving semi trucks are often devastating for drivers and occupants in traditional passenger vehicles. Commercial trucks are so much larger and heavier than other cars and light trucks on the road. Catastrophic and fatal injuries are common occurrences when accidents involve big rigs.

Distracted Big Rig Drivers

Traditional passenger occupant motorists aren’t the only ones who are texting while driving or engaging in other types of distracted behaviors behind the wheel. Semi truck drivers are distracted too. Distracted driving is dangerous no matter what kind of vehicle you’re driving, but the larger and heavier the vehicle, the more damage it can inflict. Anytime a driver takes his or her attention away from the task of driving, everybody is put at risk.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

Commercial trucking company owners and big rig drivers have additional rules and regulations to follow to keep the roads safe for all users. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is the department tasked with regulating the large trucking industry. From data and analysis to regulatory compliance and enforcement, the FMCSA aims at improving safety for truck drivers and other motorists on U.S. roadways.

What to do After a Semi Truck Accident

Since truck drivers have to follow an additional set of rules and regulation for safe operation, truck accident cases are often more complicated than traditional car accident cases. Speaking with a lawyer is your first step. Your lawyer will need stay on top of investigative details from multiple agencies. The team at the Altman Legal Group sends their deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Lana P. Carlton.

Fatal 18-Wheeler Crash near Slidell

Last week, a crash near Slidell involving a semi-truck took the life of a Sanger woman. According to the Wise County Messenger, 64-year-old Anita Eugster was headed westbound on Farm Road 455 on Wednesday morning just before the crash. As she attempted to turn south at the intersection for Farm Road 51, her car was struck by an 18-wheeler. Witness reports indicate that both vehicles were airborne in the moments following the collision.

Sadly, Eugster died on the scene as a result of her injuries. Her four-year-old granddaughter was air lifted to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth for treatment. As of Thursday, she was still listed in critical condition, but there’s no word on the extent of her injuries. Witnesses jumped into action to help the victims, and first responders were swiftly on the scene.

Although the large tanker truck overturned on the west side of the roadway, slid and crashed into recreational vehicles nearby, the driver was able to walk away from the scene. Thankfully, the tanker was hauling saltwater at the time, so the risk of a large explosion wasn’t as great as it could have been.

Crashes Involving 18-Wheelers

Crashes involving large commercial trucks can be devastating and fatal for drivers and passengers in lighter cars and trucks. Semi trucks are so much larger and heavier than traditional passenger occupant vehicles, and truck drivers have a duty to drive responsibly to keep roadways in Texas and across the country safe for other motorists.

Keeping Roadways Safe

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has been charged with regulating the commercial trucking industry to improve safety for commercial and non-commercial drivers across the country. Since big rigs are so large and heavy, commercial truck drivers and trucking companies have additional rules and regulations to follow to keep everybody safe.

After a Semi Truck Crash

Investigations involving semi truck crashes need to be incredibly in depth. Commercial truck drivers have more rules and regulations to follow than other drivers on the roadway. It’s important to have a lawyer with semi-truck case experience who can help to determine if any safety violations were made or if any of the laws governing the safe operation of a large truck were broken at the time of a crash. The team at the Altman Legal Group sends their deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Anita Eugster and wishes her granddaughter a full and speedy recovery.

Fatal Wreck on Lloyd Ruby Overpass

On Wednesday afternoon, a fatal wreck involving a semi truck took the life of a 68-year-old Vernon resident.

The three-vehicle crash happened on Central Freeway on the Lloyd Ruby Overpass. According to KFDX News Channel Three, a Chevy S10 pickup truck stalled out in the center lane of the roadway. The S10 driver’s wife was also traveling on Central Freeway in a Chevy Cavalier. She pulled up behind her husband’s stalled vehicle and turned her hazard lights on, in efforts to warn oncoming traffic.

Sadly, a semi truck slammed into the back of the Cavalier, which then struck the S10. Roberta Gidney, 68-years-old of Vernon, was killed in the crash. She was still inside of her car at the time of the impact. Her husband was out of his truck and directing traffic when the semi-truck crashed into the car. According to KFDX News, he was able to move to safety when the collision happened. Initial reports also indicate that there was a dog inside of the Cavalier, and was alive when he was transported from the scene by the humane society.

Under Investigation

At this time, there’s no word on why the semi truck slammed into the Cavalier. Could it have been a case of distracted driving? Was the driver of the 18-wheeler speeding? As of yesterday afternoon, Officer Jeff Hughes with the Wichita Falls Police Department said that the crash was still under investigation. The roadway was closed and traffic had to be diverted, so investigators and crews could work the scene.

Wrecks Involving Semi Trucks

Crashes involving semi trucks can be incredibly complex, because of the many commercial trucking regulations involved. When 18-wheelers are involved in crashes, a variety of rules and regulations have to be considered. In addition to the traditional rules of the road and traffic laws, commercial truckers have an additional set of regulations to follow.

In some cases, it isn’t just the driver’s actions that have to be analyzed, but the commercial trucking company’s actions too. There are special regulations for a variety of different types of cargo too. Volatile chemicals and other dangerous loads have to be transported carefully to ensure public safety. An experienced wrongful death lawyer can help families get to the bottom of crashes involving semi trucks. The team at the Altman Legal Group sends their deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Roberta Gidney.
