  • Those fires also caused an estimated $893 million in direct property damage.

Space Heater Safety

With temperatures beginning to dip, many families in Wichita Falls and the surrounding Texoma communities will be turning to space heaters and other types of heating equipment to stay warm. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has tips for families who want to utilize their space heaters safely this season. It’s important to always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and keep anything that can burn at least three-feet away from your heating devices. The NFPA also recommends having a three-foot “kid-free zone” around space heaters. Always turn portable heaters off before leaving a room or going to bed.

House Fires in Wichita Falls

House fires can be devastating for families. In addition to property damage or a total loss of your home and belongings, burn injuries and smoke inhalation are also common with residential fires. If you think a faulty or defective space heater caused your house fire, you need to speak with a personal injury lawyer about your case. Defective space heaters, faulty wiring, unsafe machines and exposed wires can all cause house fires, so in-depth investigations are always essential.

At this time, there’s no word on the elderly couple’s current conditions or the extent of their injuries. The whole team at the Altman Legal Group wishes them full and swift recoveries from their injuries.

Burn Injuries in Wichita Falls House Fires

Recovering from a burn injury can be a lengthy and painful process. Victims are often in the hospital and out of work for extended periods of time. House Fire in Wichita Falls

Last week, a house fire displaced a Wichita Falls family. According to KFDX News Channel Three, the fire broke out sometime before 8:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of Rock Point Street. First responders and firefighters were swiftly on the scene of the one-story house fire. At one point, there were no less than 17 fire fighting and law enforcement units on the scene.

Fire May Have Started in the Attic

Initial reports indicate that the fire started somewhere in the attic, above the garage. There were two people and a dog inside the house at the time of the fire. Thankfully, they were all able to escape the flames. Traffic was diverted as firefighters extinguished the blaze, and crews worked the scene. Very few details have been released about the house fire, and the cause is likely still under investigation with authorities.

The Aftermath of a House Fire

Depending upon the severity of the fire, how quickly it spread and how quickly firefighters were able to respond, the aftermath of a house fire can vary greatly. In a best-case scenario, fire damage might only be isolated to a small area of the home with repairs costs and smoke damage being the main concerns. If flames engulfed the entire house, you could be looking at a total loss. Of course, the most dangerous situation is a house fire with loved ones and pets trapped inside.

Burn Injuries and Smoke Inhalation

Smoke inhalation and burn injuries are the two most common types of injuries involved with house fires. Both of these injuries can have painful and long-lasting impacts on the lives of victims. People who have suffered from burn injuries often have to go through multiple surgical operations and skin-grafting procedures. In addition to multiple procedures, most people will live with pain and scarring for years after the fire.

Who to Call After a House Fire

Whether you’re dealing with extensive property damage or smoke inhalation and burn injuries, speaking with a personal injury lawyer is an important step in putting your life back together after a house fire. If you and your loved ones have been injured in a house fire or you have lost your house to a fire, you need to call a skilled personal injury lawyer with fire damage experience as soon as possible. Fire damage cases are time sensitive, and your lawyer can make sure all investigative leads are being followed up on.
