A crash that happened on Wednesday sent two people to the hospital. The two-car wreck occurred near the intersection of Baylor Street and Tenth Street. Officers with the Wichita Falls Police Department stated that both cars were travelling east on Tenth Street. One of the cars was rear-ended and pushed up on to the sidewalk. Both drivers were transported to United Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries. There is no word on whether or not either car was carrying passengers at the time. KFDX News Channel Three didn’t offer any information about the drivers’ current conditions either. They did report that that nobody was ticketed at the scene.
Questions still remain unanswered about the cause of this wreck. Was distracted driving a factor? Could there have been a mechanical problem with either car? Even if a driver doesn’t receive a ticket at the scene of a crash, he or she can still be held liable for damages.
We recently reported on a case involving a Young County woman who was rear ended by a Texas Forest Service employee. Originally, the state of Texas and her insurance company refused to cover her medical bills and property damages. After almost two and half years, with the help of her attorney, Patrick Scott here at the Altman Legal Group, she was able to reach a settlement.
After a collision, everybody hopes that their insurance company is going to be supportive and easy to deal with. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case. It may be advantageous to have an attorney handle one’s insurance company. It’s always a good idea to speak with a lawyer prior to accepting any offers from the insurance company. Initial offers might not cover all of the medical bills, property damages and lost wages involved in a crash.
What to Do After a Wreck
- Seek medical attention first.
- Contact a law enforcement agency to obtain a report.
- If physically able, get driver information, take photos and get witness contact information.
- Speak with an attorney before talking to the insurance company.
Consultations at the Altman Legal Group are always free. Hoping that one’s insurance company is going to do the right thing isn’t always the best policy. After a wreck, it’s absolutely critical to get full compensation for damages. The insurance company may not take into account lost wages, pain and suffering, physical therapy and lengthy recovery periods.
